What is Kizomba?
Kizomba (meaning 'Party' in Kimbundu, Angolan dialect) is a partner dance developed in Angola in the late 1980s with influences from other Lusofone countries. It is a fusion of Angolan Semba, Argentinean Tango, French Zouk, Samba and Salsa. In recent times the style got slightly slower and more sensual. The diversity of this influence adds to the unique flavour or Kizomba dance where leading and being led finds a new dimension.
When Kizomba is danced well, it is nothing short of breathtaking and we would like to share our love and experience of this dance with you. If you have tried and love Salsa, Bachata, Merengue or Ballroom etc. why not come and try Kizomba.· It is a beautiful, expressive and sensual dance that is sweeping across Europe's dance floors.
Kizomba is very popular in Portugal, France, Denmark and Holland. It was first introduced in London in 2005 and is growing in popularity in the UK thanks to teachers such as Iris de Brito, Kwenda Lima and Miguel Monteiro.
Inside of Kizomba there are 3 different rhythms, The slow one (Tarraxinha) the intermediate (Kizomba) and the faster one (Semba).
Semba is a traditional type of music from the Southern-African country of Angola. Semba is the predecessor to a variety of music styles originated from Africa, of which three of the most famous are Samba (from Brazil), Kizomba (Angolan style of music derived directly from Zouk and Caribbean rhythms) and Kuduro energetic, fast-paced Angolan Techno/House music,so to speak). Semba comes from the singular Masemba, meaning "a touchof the bellies", a move that characterizes the Semba dance.
Ideally danced in pairs, Kizomba provides great complicity between man and woman, is danced very close with slow and sensual movements.
